Why the royal family didn’t publicly mark Princess Lilibet’s third birthday

The daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex turned three on Tuesday. Despite being a British citizen, neither her uncle Prince William and his wife Princess Kate nor her grandfather King Charles publicly welcomed her on social media.

The explanation is straightforward and has nothing sinister to do with it: senior royals usually reserve their official platforms to commemorate the birthdays of working members of the royal family.

“In recent years and certainly since King Charles III’s reign began in September 2022, we have only seen public messages from the royal family’s social media accounts for working members of the royal family, such as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Princess Royal,” previously stated Danielle Stacey, the online royal correspondent for HELLO!.

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned their positions as senior royals and stopped performing royal duties.

“Similarly, the palace doesn’t typically share messages on the likes of Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and Zara Tindall’s birthdays nor their children’s special days.”

This also explains why the royal family didn’t publicly wish Lilibet’s older brother Prince Archie a happy fifth birthday last month.

But the young Princess from California will have probably received a personal greeting from her grandfather, King Charles, who hasn’t had many opportunities to meet her but undoubtedly loves his youngest grandchild very much.

Lili’s pre-birthday bash

The Sussexes threw a pre-birthday bash over the weekend to honor little Lili’s special day.

People claims that Harry and Meghan hosted a private party at their Montecito home for close friends, family, and some of Lili’s younger friends.

Based on their kids’ past celebrations, it was undoubtedly a laid-back, enjoyable event.

Her first birthday party

During the family’s visit to Windsor in 2022 for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Harry and Meghan hosted Lili’s first birthday party with a “casual, intimate backyard picnic,” according to a spokesperson for the couple.

In the couple’s Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, fans got a peek of the festivities as Archie assisted Lili in blowing out the candle on her cake, which had a pink and flowery theme.

Sweet, chatty children

Meghan talked candidly about her children last month while visiting Nigeria, calling them “very sweet, chatty children”.

Lili’s favorite class, she disclosed, was “singing and dancing,” presumably due to “all the jumping around”.
