During a Wednesday outing in Portsmouth, the Prince of Wales was questioned about the state of his wife, the Princess of Wales.
One war hero asked the future King if his wife, who is receiving preventative chemotherapy treatment, is “getting any better” as William met with veterans to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
William answered, “She is, indeed. She would have cherished being present.”
For months, Catherine has avoided being seen in public. Her most recent public appearance occurred in March, when she revealed her cancer diagnosis in a video that she recorded from her Windsor home.
In addition to performing royal duties, her husband William has been keeping a close eye on their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, at home.
William attended Wednesday’s D-Day commemorations alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla.
In addition to wearing four medals on his suit—the Golden, Diamond, Platinum, and Coronation—the Prince debuted a new medal around his neck: the Great Master of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath.
William’s honour
In April, King Charles named William, his eldest son, the Great Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath. King George I founded it in 1725, but its origins may have been as far back as the eighth century.
William completed 7.5 years of full-time military service, serving with the Blues and Royals and joining the RAF Search and Rescue Force. The order is given to members of the armed forces or the civil service for exemplary service.

From 1974 until 2022, Charles held the title of Great Master.
D-Day speech
William read aloud at the ceremony on Wednesday in front of the public, veterans, and other dignitaries, such as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his spouse Akshata Murty.
William declared: “Those veterans of the Normandy landing who came from all over our country and all walks of life to join in the fight against tyranny are our guests of honor today. Many of those who took up arms had never experienced combat; some were barely out of high school.”
“We will always remember those who served and those who waved them off,” he said in closing. Watching their loved ones go into battle, not knowing if they would ever return, were mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters.
“We honor the courage of those who bravely crossed this sea to free Europe today. those who made certain that Overlord was a triumph. and those who bided their time until they arrived safely.”

“As we give thanks for all those who gave so much to win the victory, whose fruits we still enjoy to this day, let us, once again, commit ourselves always to remember, cherish, and honor those who served that day and to live up to the freedom they died for by balancing rights with civic responsibilities to our country,” declared King Charles, who also took the stage and delivered a moving speech. Because we are all perpetually indebted to them.”

Prince Harry’s medals
Even though Prince Harry, William’s younger brother, left ‘The Firm’ and renounced his honorary military titles when he left the royal family, he still dons his medals for military-related functions and significant life events like his father’s coronation.
Harry, like William, is a proud owner of the Golden, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilee medals that he wore during the coronation of the King in May of 2023.
In addition, he frequently dons his KCVO star—a symbol of the Royal Victorian Order—which the late Queen Elizabeth II granted her grandson in 2015 for “services to the sovereign”—as well as the Afghanistan Operational Service Medal to commemorate his military service.
